Most of my close friends know that I don’t normally celebrate birthdays (heck I don’t even make a point of remembering most of my friends birthdays either *guilty smile* )
.. For countless years, I’ve had cozy quiet under the radar celebrations with my family – always the same closed routine, no parties or big dinners or gatherings.
And thus with my sudden move to Singapore, I realized that I would be celebrating my very first birthday abroad – this time without even having a chance to hear my parents and brothers sing me a birthday song (which they’ve done every year without fail). But as luck would have it, shortly pass midnight, a dear friend called me up and sang me not ONE but TWO songs haha (stun siall)..
Anyway, I had work the next day and I came home expecting an ordinary Saturday to pass (while I happily conquered space in Spore). Can’t blame me – Jacq was away on a cruise and will only be back much later on that day, while I had plans to meet up with Edmund who was in Singapore and needed a place to bunk for the night. Now I’ve NEVER celebrated my birthday with Edmund before, and he was the LAST person I expected to be in on this, let alone know that it was my birthday…
Little did I know that there was a major conspiracy going on behind my back. Friends have been lying directly to my face! Edmund didn’t really need a place for the night, he WAS the KEY to getting me out of my house & detaining me while everyone gathered! I’m still surprised at how they got to you Ed.. haha.
Came home to a locked door (suspicions peaked), but was caught completely out of my element when it opened to a sight of balloons, a lit cake, a birthday song, and Airin, Vin, Jacq and Gary standing there with big grins on their faces. Even more so was a board pinned up with all sorts of colorful birthday messages from friends back in KL. Man, if it wasn’t cause I was in a state of shock, I would have hugged each and everyone of you guys…

Soo many candles!

All the lovely birthday messages, painstakingly collected, written, delivered, printed.. (some not pinned up cause no space)

I seriously didn’t know where to start readingg! I was completely lost for awhile..

Edmund – the ultimate liar haha, thanks for an awesome game recommendation though, and for being a part of this.

Airin – One of the main conspirators haha, coordinated with everyone when Jacq wasn’t around. Thanks dear!

Vin Lee, thanks for the cake, for coming & the balloons!

Thanks Jacq, for organizing this & for your sweet letter.. luv ya too (Gary don’t kill me
). And both of you, for the white board and pin up boards, and all the running and designing!

Whole bunch of us went crazy with folding clown balloons, and even Jacq + Edmund managed to overcome their balloon phobias to come up with creations of their own!

Airin & her latex flower

And how else to close off the night, but with a round of Catan.. haha.

It was a particularly competitive game, and it took awhile to complete.

An end to an unforgettable night..
Treated Jacq & Gary to Quantum of Solace the next day. Vin + Ed, I owe you guys a movie! Airin, Bolt 3D when you come back from Oz! And thanks to EVERYONE for all your sweet messages… they are still pinned up and hanging in my room as I write this.
Thanks to Facebook too – without which something like this could never have been pulled off. Prime example of how social networking’s changing the way we live & make friends..
You guys may have just broken down my opinions on birthday celebrations haha.. I’m getting OLD dammit!
