Yup, my youngest brother was drafted into National Service (Khidmat Negara) last December. He’ll be there till March, and during the last weekends, we had the luxury of visiting him during the camp’s one and only family open day…
He’s based near the town of Cheneh all the way in Terengganu, about an hour’s drive from my late grandpa’s house near Kemasik. The timing was pretty good, as we were already planning to head back for my grandpa’s 100th day funeral prayers..
Here are some photos from the camp:

Ching was almost unrecognizable after having been there for about a month! He’s extremely dark now from all the exercise activities under the hot sun, and he was given a crew cut during his very first day there.
There wasn’t much there during the family day – some simple booths and some food and drinks. They gave family members also full access to the grounds though, so we got to walk and look around at the living conditions. Sleeping area was really clean, but the toilet (as usual) leaves much to be desired..
There was of course 2 outdoor activities that was also open to the public – kayaking and the flying fox which cost a mere RM2 per person. Me and Ziet being the thrill seekers that we were, couldn’t resist giving the flying fox a go.. hehe

Hanging on for dear life..

That’s it!?

We stayed a bit until near the end, chatting, catching up and learning all we can about the day to day activities at the camp. Soon it was time to go – heavy hearted – but knowing we’ll be seeing Ching again during his CNY break come early Feb.
Come to think of it, I really wouldn’t have mind the opportunity to experience national service. Everything’s VERY safe, it builds character, can make lots of new friends, its adventurous, almost challenging, and is an experience of a lifetime. PLUS he gets to shoot the M16 rifle! *jealous*

I’m impressed, I have to say. Really rarely do I encounter a weblog that’s both educative and entertaining, and let me let you know, you could have hit the nail on the head. Your concept is outstanding; the issue is one thing that not sufficient persons are speaking intelligently about. I’m very happy that I stumbled across this in my seek for one thing referring to this.
