Only 75 movies watched in 2010. With such a low count, I don’t think I deserve to call myself a movie buff anymore. Then again, I’m sure most will agree that 2010 was a terrible terrible year for movies in general. There was hardly anything worth watching, and most of the Oscar nominees only hit the cinemas in early 2011!
My Top 5 Movie Picks for 2010 goes to :
1. Inception
Christopher Nolan has crafted a masterpiece that not only challenges your imagination but respects your intelligence as well. You will be assaulted with new ideas, visceral imagery, stunning cinematography and surreal dreamlike sequences that will leave you dazed, amazed, breathless and hungry for more. Guaranteed.
2. Ice Kacang Puppy Love
Ah Niu takes a break from Taiwan to pay homage to Malaysia with his directorial debut – and proves himself to be quite the talent in the making! A wonderfully light hearted romantic comedy set against the backdrop of a rural Malaysian town, I simply cannot recommend this movie enough to my fellow countrymen.
3. The Social Network
A tribute to Mark Zuckerberg – this movie’s powerfully written script and great acting takes you into the life of one of the most influential figures of our generation. It’s time you got to know the guy whose vision fundamentally changed how we approach interpersonal relationships
4. Shutter Island
Whats with DiCaprio landing all the awesome roles? Shutter Island is an intelligently crafted psychological thriller that often blurs the line between sanity and insanity. Warrants multiple viewings – just as you thought you’ve got the movie figured out, you just might want to rethink again…
5. Ip Man 2
For lack of better movies, I’ve decided to put Ip Man 2 up here in my Top 5 due to it being the best Kung Fu movie of the year. Donnie Yen is set to take the mantle from the likes of Jet Li and Jackie Chan, as his Ip Man movies spawn other copycats and influence legions of kids (and my friends!) to take up Wing Chun…
And here’s the complete list of movies I watched in 2010. The Movie Mania section will be reset for 2011…
