131 movies watched in 2009. Definitely a LOT lower compared to my previous 2 years. I slowed down drastically from mid year onwards as the PS3 took up most of my time..
My Top 5 Movie Picks for 2009 goes to :
1. Avatar
Watching this in 3D is like taking an unforgettable vacation to a different world / planet in a different lifetime. Screw the plot or everything else that critics would normally say about a movie. It’s not a movie to me anymore, its an experience. I just want to go back to Pandora again. And again. And again.
2. District 9
One of the best merges between social commentary on human nature, satire and geekery. They just don’t make original intelligent meaningful scifi movies like that anymore. The nod to Quake/Halflife made it even better.
3. Departures
This superbly original heart wrenching Japanese drama won Best Foreign Film at the 61st Academy Awards. Guaranteed to make you both laugh and cry – get the tissues ready.
4. Let The Right One In
A truly shocking, riveting and dark teen romance horror between a normal boy and an ancient vampire girl. Will leave you gasping at the end. Eat dust Twilight!
5. (500) Days Of Summer
The best romance flick for the year. The sort of movie that deals with love and relationships as it is, imperfect, broken but yet ultimately hopeful – something I can definitely relate with..
Honorable Mention:
[REC]
I developed a massive craving for horror movies in 2009, and encountered a few gems (Paranormal Activity, Eden Lake, The Descent), but none came close to the finely executed level of escalating horror in [REC]. This is One Intense shit.
And here’s the complete list of movies I watched in 2009. The Movie Maniasection will be reset for 2010…

wow! kudos for compiling all the posters of all 131 movies – its tres impressive! must have taken quite a bit of time to do… or do you have a system in place already? haha.
FoOie on January 14, 2010
Thanks Alexis! Not really much of a system – just a genuine interest in keeping a log, a few minutes to download the poster and add every time a movie is finished and before you know it, you’ve got 131
