Went to Laundry bar for this month’s Moonshine with Jacq, Caroline & Angeline to catch Reza and Mia’s performance. I’ve never seen them perform with their bandmates before (yes, I’ve been that out of touch :P). The day’s lineup also included Otam and Hujan.

When we arrived, Otam had already started his performance. Didn’t take any photos of him - he was a solo singer songwriter guitarist - with a very rough and raspy voice - and I just couldn’t make out what he was singing (or pronouncing).
Found out that Faz and Fook were gonna be in Mia’s band tonight (caught me by surprise - but I should have known larr) . The place was already semi-packed at this time, and the cozy corner next to the stage was already filled up. We had to squeeze in with some strangers but at least we got to sit down, and got our drinks. Thanks Faz, Adam and everyone else who made space for us :).
Mia was up next and they didn’t disappoint..

Here’s the view where we were at.. But most of the time, I’d be right down at the stage taking photos..

Faz on her guitar

Fook.. cradling his imaginary lover, and stroking her in all the right places..

Mia with Fook and Joshua (hiding behind the drums).

The crowd in Laundry Bar right then.. have you ever seen it so packed? It was about to get A LOT worse later..

Meee! (and who are those girls behind me?)
‘Sayang’ sounds so good with a full ensemble live, I think the song is starting to grow on me. Faz had a little guitar solo moment at the last track, and the overall performance was pretty inspiring if a little short (maybe it felt short cause I didn’t want it to end?). Reza was due up next.

Reza Salleh up close, with Melina at the back..

Hanafi on guitars, and John Thomas handling the drums..
Reza started off with Smoke City, which sounded way more groovier than it did on his EP. He also did a much faster number, which really got most of the house moving along to it (I forgot the name for this track so if anyone can remind me, I’d really appreciate it
) ‘For Her’ was a little too slow for me especially after the initial songs have gotten me all hyped up for something heavier - but otherwise, they kicked ass

the 2 fantastic fusicians..

3 gorgeous sisters & their escort/chaperon? hahaha
Hujan came on next, and then it dawned on me why there was so many people around.. Didn’t realize that Hujan was a famous band that has lots of airtime on the Malay radio stations. They were also number 1 on Channel [V]’s Amp for quite awhile. When it was their turn to perform, the crowd inside DOUBLED (literally). They must have all been lepaking outside waiting for the moment to just rush in and crash the place.

The throng of fans was insane - 2 jokers even tried body-surfing the crowd.. As Angeline had to go back (she had classes the next day), we were forced to squeeze through in order to get out. When we eventually maneuvered our way to the exit, Caroline and Jacq both said that their asses were groped. ![]()
What the FUCK was that about man. Crazy bunch of uncouth immature rempits, with no respect for womankind or the establishment
. They didn’t order drinks & freeloaded the place like its their own concert joint (even if they can’t drink, there’s plenty of non alcoholic beverages). There’s definitely something wrong with their upbringing.. The whole country’s advancing, and they’re still stuck with a stone age mentality (woo.. ass.. mustt.. touch). And here we are celebrating our nation’s 50th Independence. Sigh..
Sorry bout that - thinking abot these things rile me up every time. Especially since it also reminded me of a similar bad experience that Airin once had. This country is filled with jakuns.
The 2 songs I managed to hear Hujan play were pretty good - they were tight and they had flair. But I think Laundry Bar really wasn’t the place for this. If only I had some forewarning. The organizers must have been flustered. Waiters couldn’t get anywhere, Laundry regulars were probably turned off. It was a blemish on an otherwise great night. ![]()
The ladies shrugged it off (I hope), and we went to get ourselves some ice cream & nuggets from McD’s. Poor Jacq’s shirt (or was it her neckline) kept wanting to have a taste of her chocotop during the journey home though lol..
EDIT: Looks like the ladies did enjoy themselves afterall
